Great maternity care is important and we want to help you through this journey so you can have the best experience possible

Dr. Kendra Larrington DC, CACCP, CBE

Dr. Kendra is Perinatal and Webster Technique certified. The Webster Technique is a specific prenatal technique used to identify, and treat subluxation (or misalignment) and release tension in the pelvis of a pregnant mama through gentle, safe and specific chiropractic adjustments.

The Webster Technique, developed by Larry Webster, works to gently balance the bones, muscles and ligaments of the pelvis allowing the baby to get into the best possible position for birth. This leads to easier and safer delivery for both mother and baby. It is for this reason that many birth providers are seeking Doctors of Chiropractic who are trained in this technique.

How Do You Envision Your Birth?

Pregnancy is an incredible and exciting journey to motherhood! Along the journey, many changes take place in your body to support, nourish, and make room for your developing baby. All the changes happening in a woman’s body while pregnant require compensations throughout her pelvis and spine, and this can also lead to imbalances in the pelvic muscles and ligaments. These are reasons why it is common for pregnant women to have an increase of aches and pains in the pelvis, hips and low back. The abnormal positioning of the pelvis and spine can interfere with the position and development of baby and make delivery more challenging. A balanced pelvis and well aligned spine for mom, means a relaxed and comfortable environment for baby to grow and thrive.

Many mothers have come to recognize the vital role that chiropractic care plays in a healthy pregnancy with a properly functioning spine and nervous system.

What You May Experience:

– General Health and Comfort. The position of your growing baby will cause your center of gravity to shift and your spine will naturally alter itself to accommodate this change. As a result, you may experience low back and pelvic pain. 84% of pregnant women that receive chiropractic care receive relief from low back pain. Chiropractic care helps improve your overall wellness, increase your comfort during your pregnancy and help you have a safe, natural delivery. Research also shows that postpartum pain was relived in 75% of moms that receive regular chiropractic care.

– Structural Health and Alignment. The increase in hormones during pregnancy can cause muscles, ligaments, cartilage, and even bones to “soften” and become more freely moveable. When the pelvis and spine are aligned the uterus is able to enlarged symmetrically with the growing baby. When our structure is misaligned and unbalanced, muscles can tighten and the ligaments that are attached to the uterus pull unequally and may cause it to torque, reducing the amount of room for the baby. This constraint can prevent the baby from getting into the best possible position for birth possibly leading to breech or malpositioning.

– Nervous System Health. It is especially important during pregnancy for nerve impulses to flow from your brain to your body. A subluxated, or misaligned, vertebrae can create nerve interference, which can affect your body’s nervous system and how it functions. Chiropractic care can restore that function and allow that nerve flow to communicate to your growing baby so they can develop optimally.

-Reduced Labor Time. Women under chiropractic care had nearly 25% reduction in the average labor time for first time moms and 33% with women who have given birth in the past!

Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy allows for healthier function of the mother and baby. It can be a great benefit in many of the common complaints of pregnancy such as low back pain, swelling of hands and feet, abdominal tension, reflux, etc. Seeking care early in pregnancy is a safe and effective method of supporting the natural birth process. Whether you are thinking of becoming a mother, trying to conceive, currently pregnant with your 1st or 4th, or in the 4th Trimester postpartum period, it is always a great time to start chiropractic care and get on then road to family wellness.
